Academic Resource Center

The Academic Center is located in Room A106 and is open daily from 7:30 am to 2:07 pm except for period 8.

The Academic Center provides support for all Joel Barlow High School students with homework completion, organization, skill development, and assessment preparation. A teacher is assigned to the room during each period to help students stay on track and build effective academic habits. Support may include reinforcement of skills and strategies, assistance applying those skills to specific assignments, and opportunities to deepen or extend understanding.

Students who use the Academic Center can strengthen their overall organization, improve timely work completion and task initiation, reduce distractions, develop flexible thinking, and build persistence with follow-through. More information is available on the Academic Support Center Webpage.

The Writing Center is located in Room A104 and is open daily from 7:00am until 3:00pm.

The Writing Center staff coordinates the across-discipline writing program, offering students individual and small group help with writing and supporting teachers in the teaching of writing. Equipped with computers and printers, the Writing Center is a place where students are able to complete work for a wide range of courses.

Our mission is to maximize the writing potential of every member of the Joel Barlow community, giving them the skills to become stronger, more independent thinkers and writers. We support writing and the teaching of writing in all subject areas; and we strive to serve all students, teachers, and staff by providing guidance, resources, and a dedicated space to write.

Access the Writing Center’s website for current information, writing resources, and Summer Reading information.
